Ayana Ife Breaks Ground on Project Runway!
2017 was the year for Caribbean creatives!
Ayana Ife, a designer with Trinidadian roots, became the first Islamic woman to make it to the Project Runway’s finals, the first in the show’s history. She created unique pieces with her version of modest flare and highlighted Trinidad and Tobago on the global fashion stage as a country full of talent and creativity.
Claiming her role as a trailblazer, she said in an interview with Loop TT, “I do know the importance of representation and thinking back to when I was younger, I would have been happy to see someone like me doing positive things so I decided I would step into this light and own it. I think it is very positive”
We’re so proud to call her our own and hope that young people use her as an example of all they can accomplish!
